With the start of the new-year a lot of things has happened already, the omicron variant spreading like wild fire and finally child(15 years to 18 years) vaccinations have started, this article would highlight and encircle all the important details related to the virus.
Omicron, the end of COVID-19?
The spread of a new variant of the virus has caused a lot of speculations and rumours, with the most popular being that Omicron is the nature’s vaccination to the Delta variant (the most dangerous variant also known as the 2nd wave of Sars COVID 2). Let’s start off, by discussing about the origin of Omicron. Omicron was first identified by South African scientists, who reported the variant to the World Health Organization (WHO)—however, it's not certain that the variant started in that country, Omicron is far more contagious than the previous variants, however according to doctors and scientists it is far less dangerous than the delta variant and as far as the speculations that state that the omicron variant is a vaccine created by nature for the delta variant is absolutely invalid and is false. Scientists and researchers have not confirmed anything as of yet, the only thing that is apparent by now is that the omicron variant is much less severe than the other COVID variants. Monica Gandhi an immunologist in California recently stated that COVID is here to stay.
I personally believe that we have to start living with COVID and accept it as a part of our nature like other viruses, for example pneumonia. The sooner the better.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) recently approved ‘OMISURE’. Omisure is a RT – PCR kit. It is used to detect Omicron. It was manufactured by Tata Medical and Diagnostics.
A spec of good news in these dark times has arrived. The vaccinations for children born before and 2007 has started. Many schools have started giving their students free vaccines. Only the COVAXIN has been approved for children as of now. COVAXIN is an Indian made vaccine which was developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The ZYCOV-D vaccine is yet to be approved, however, rumours state that it will be approved soon. ZYCOV-D is a DNA plasmid-based COVID-19 vaccine developed by Indian pharmaceutical company Cadila Healthcare, with support from the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council. These were all the details associated with children vaccination in the exotic subcontinent of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the roll out of third 'precaution doses' (booster) of COVID-19 vaccine for health and frontline workers as well as for those above 60 with comorbidities, set to begin on January 10th. In medicine, comorbidity is the presence of one or more additional conditions often co-occurring with a primary condition. For example, a person who has diabetes and heart diseases and is above the age of 60 will be eligible to take the booster dose.
